Stupid TV Quote of the Day

There was a school shooting up in Tacoma this morning. Watching the news just now, they were interviewing students and neighbors of the school. While the reporter was talking with a neighbor whose dog barked (and I guess helped locate the shooter? I didn't catch it...), we heard this gem:
"Don't ever tell your dogs not to stop barking."

Okay, wait a minute. I think the point she was trying to make was that when your dog barks, there might be a good reason, so don't hamper that. But what she said doesn't make sense. "Don't tell your dogs to stop barking" is what I think she meant. I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around the double negative she spoke though. So let's say I have dogs, and I tell them, "Don't stop barking"--her quote is telling me not to say that. Wow. I'm confused.

This reminds me of an interesting book on logic that I read awhile back. If you're interested in such things, check it out.

hahaha.. I've spent like 5 minutes trying to figure this one out LOL!! This person obviously took an extended vacation in double negative land. Ok, so, "Don't ever" means the same thing as "never," but I can't figure out the "not to stop" part is confusing me haha... great find!

Wow and then I post a really bad comment that I clearly didn't read before I published :) The horrible grammar has messed with my head and made me a bad writer!
